High Fidelity on DVD marks the successful trans-location of Nick Hornby's masterpiece of modern fiction about a British music-obsessed record store owner, to Chicago's North Side. In its film form witness the break-out of Nacho Libre star Jack Black as he threatens with metal and surprises with Al Green style crooning. Many memorable moments revolve around the real life situations of music, customers not finding what they want, the up and coming band needing a break and the former dj, digging back into the favorites for an adoring crowd of dancers. The music has a life of its own, the people almost don't but they get by. Oh, yeah and there's a romance, where star John Cusack realizes that letting music fill so many spaces in his life has left him in a muddle with all of his many ex-girlfriends, so he looks them up after a recent one leaves him for Ian "Ray" Raymond (played adeptly by Tim Robbins). The scene where Cusack and his co-workers get to beat up on Ray is a comic highlight. All-in-all satisfying performances and a soundtrack which plays everything from the 13th Floor Elevators to The Beta Band. A must see for music fans of the rock and soul era.
